ICE

Individual Championships Earned — fractional championship credit based on a player's share (PPP + FMVP bonus, if applicable) of their team's total playoff PPP (incl. FMVP bonus) in each title run. ICE sums that credit across every championship; Peak ICE is the single best title run. Click the championship count to see the ICE earned in every ring, or switch to Teams to look up a specific championship team (e.g. the 2011 Mavericks).

ICE allocates a team's championship to its players based on each player's share of the team's total playoff PPP (plus a Finals MVP bonus) — literal, direct credit for a title run, not just a ring on the shelf.

  • Only players who actually won a championship earn any ICE — unlike some similar public models (e.g. Kevin Pelton's Championships Added), which can credit non-champions; in that model Karl Malone scores higher than two-time-champion Hakeem Olajuwon, which this model's ICE avoids.
  • Worked example: a perfect 10 playoff run plus Finals MVP earns 13 points; if the team's total playoff PPP was 39, that player earns 33% of the ring — 0.33 ICE.
  • Peak ICE (a player's single best title run, shown on this same page) tells a very different story than raw ring count: Robert Horry's 7 rings vs. Larry Bird's 3 sounds like a landslide, but by ICE it's only 1.2x, and by Peak ICE, Bird's best individual title contribution (27.6% of a championship) nearly doubles Horry's best (14.7%).
  • Known gap: ICE doesn't penalize joining an already-loaded team — Kevin Durant's two Golden State titles score the same way a from-scratch title would.
